Barry Shulman's Blog @ Card-Player
Barry Shulman is is best known in the poker world as the publisher of Cardplayer magazine. After he bought the magazine he expanded it and grew it to 126 pages per issue and a circulation of 50,000 issues. He did this so that it would appeal to a much wider audience.
But Barry Shulman is also a poker player. He started playing poker as a teenager but took a long break from the game after graduating in college. He now plays between many tournaments a year - even WSOP and WPT events.
On Cardplayer's online version, Barry writes his own blog on a regular basis. He writes about general poker, poker tournaments, poker news, even poker rumors, and of course his very own adventures on the felt.
He writes:
"I confess that to this day I don't know whether it feels worse to bust out of a tournament after going in with the best hand or going in with the worst hand. Of course, I know the theory that we're are always supposed to feel good about our good decisions, but I hate it when I go out after playing well and losing to a person who sucks out."
"See, the real deal is that poker has just the right balance of luck and skill. That is what allows the recreational player to play next to the pro and have a chance to win. On the other hand, there is tremendous skill and learning possible in poker. Before we had tournaments, the pros just got too much of the winnings too often. Tournaments have added considerable luck to the game, and that is why the amateurs have such fun playing it."
