John Juanda is a name you hear all time whenever there's a major poker tournament going on. And rightly so because he is one of the toughest poker players to beat at the felt and almost always finish in the money.

His reputation at the poker tables precedes him.

Poker Player of the Month - July 2007 - John Juanda -  Poker Lessons.He was the 2002 tournament Champion of the Year after winning three World Series of Poker (WSOP) titles, and a World Poker Open Championship title. Then in November 2004 he won the inaugural Professional Poker Tour event at Foxwoods Casino.

In November 2005 he earned nearly $500,000 winning the Monte Carlo Millions Consolation tournament, finished sixth in the Monte Carlo Millions Main Event, and second at "The FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational Live from Monte Carlo."

Juanda defeated his peers including Jeff Lisandro, Mike Sexton, Barry Greenstein, Tony Bloom, Tony G and Phil Ivey to win the AUD1,000,000 ($732,901) first prize in the Crown Australian Poker Championship AUD100,000 speed poker event in January 2006.

However, Juanda is yet to win World Poker Tour (WPT) title despite making it to six (6) final tables where he finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th (twice), and 6th place.

As of 2007, his total live tournament winnings exceed $6,600,000.

Juanda was born in Indonesia, came to the United States in 1990 to attend the University of Oklahoma. He had been a school track star, and even spent some time selling bibles door-to-door before starting his career as a professional poker player.
